Guadalajara continue to strengthen their medium- and long-term sporting project by securing the arrival of a player who raises the team’s competitive level. As of this Monday, and just before the Liga MX registration window closed, we officially announce that Jonathan Pérez is a new Chivas player.
Amid a perfect start to the tournament with five wins in five matches, the signing of this skillful player reflects solid, ambitious planning. Gabriel Milito’s side adds quality and talent with a footballer who will undoubtedly boost the squad.
Who is Jonathan Alexander Pérez Lara?
- He is 23 years old and was born in California.
- He is the son of Mexican parents, which makes him Mexican by birth.
- He’s a lifelong Chivahermano, just like his entire family.
- He comes from Nashville SC of the MLS.
- His stronger foot is his left.
What’s his career path?
Like Daniel Aguirre, Pérez developed in the LA Galaxy youth system, where he made his professional debut in MLS. Before breaking into the U.S. top flight, he played in the USL with Ventura County.
In 2024, he joined Nashville SC, where he continued to mature and show his full quality. Beyond his club experience, Jonathan has a long track record with Mexico’s youth national teams, having been called up to the U-16, U-18, U-20 and U-23 squads.
Honors
Despite his young age, Pérez already has two trophies to his name: he won the MLS Cup in 2024 with LA Galaxy and lifted the U.S. Open Cup with Nashville in 2025.
How does Jonathan Pérez play? What will he bring to Chivas?
He’s a left-footed, agile player with a strong ability to find space between the lines. He’s comfortable in tight areas, has a clean first touch, and knows how to make himself available, which boosts his link-up play and helps him connect easily with teammates. He makes quick decisions and keeps moves flowing.
His left foot gives him versatility in attack. From the left, he can deliver dangerous crosses, pick out teammates at the top of the box, or switch play to the opposite flank. From the right, when he cuts inside, he often looks for the curling shot to the far post. While he can play as a winger, his best qualities show up centrally, in the half-spaces—an especially valuable trait for Gabriel Milito’s system, which uses attacking midfielders between the lines. With Pérez, Chivas gain options both out wide and inside, adding an attacker with vision, movement, and technical quality.
Welcome to the team you’ve always loved, Jonathan!!!
